Stichting Help for Jogja is an education-based foundation providing free education (English course) to underprivileged students, youths, and adults in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is a Dutch-funded Non Government Organization. The beneficiaries are :
- Students in Prawirotaman Elementary School (40 students)
- Elementary School Students, Junior High School students, and Senior High School students in Central Course (90 students)
- Casual Worker such as shop assistant, craftsman, waitress, house wife, Pedicab driver, Taxi drivers, hotel staff, receptionist, etc. (30 students)
English Education, we believe, can give chances to many beneficiaries to increase their bargaining position at work, chance to get better job, increase their international network, and help the beneficiaries to get good mark at school.
The foundation formed in 2008, by a Dutch philanthropist, Vital van de Horst. It is an extension of its earlier program on Yogyakarta’s earthquake response, dealing with reconstruction and micro credits. Having successfully implemented the former program, Stichting Help for Jogja developed a project focusing on education for elementary and junior high-school age that were directly and indirectly affected by the earthquake.
We support these children through providing non-formal education and extra-curricular activities to prevent and retrieve school drop-outs children. We also train young volunteers to teach many children at an elementary school in Banyakan, Yogyakarta. The second phase of the program is targeted to senior high school and casual workers. Through this program, we provide the opportunity to enhance their proficiency in the skills, knowledge and abilities to help in determining their future career path and employment. So far we have assisted more than 400 beneficiaries, including children, youth and casual workers.
